Lightbringer emblem dbd C Andrijeski I wanted to like this book I really did A multi dimensional science fiction romance seemed right up my street But at about 20% I just couldn t take any The writing was terrible We had got precisely nowhere I was sold a hardhitting Urban Fantasy How at 20% could nothing have happened We were still waiting for the hook for God s sake The hero had turned up with dire news of some sort and was he telling Nope It was bad news terrible He just couldn t find the words He d raced across the multiverse to warn the heroine and he just sat there staring off into space with his ever changing eyes And the heroine just sat there and admired her decor All velvet and blue and evil villain boudoir themed No not tacky at all We found out the pale blue suited her She d even put streaks of it in her hair But that was it my Goodreads friends Apparently this news no matter how super duper important was not so terrible we couldn t have a meandering tour I m talking a couple of pages here around the office first And then when the news did come it was drip fed to us in teaspoonfuls because obviously we re all too stupid to understand it in one go I m surprised the heroine didn t get up and shake him If it had been a physical book in my hand I wouldn t have hesitated to turn it upside down and give it a good shake just to see if anything of substance dropped out A quick dip somewhere in the middle said sorry nothing to see here A fast paced urban fantasy this is not But if home decorating and characters with really carefully chosen names is your thing then go right ahead I don t know what else might be there because like I said I just couldn t take any J. Book lightbringer C Andrijeski who possess a special gift to transfer the reader into the most interesting UF version of our own reality Lightbringer introduces Alexis who is tasked with guarding the interdimensional portals to prevent the dark beings from breaking havoc into the world Alexis protects Earth and humanity from them all monsters demons vampires the occasional God looking for revenge and other interdimensional trespassers That is her job and she does it to perfection until things go very very wrong Lightbringers are been killed and the portals are opening without supervision and Alexis has become the last one standing between Earth and the interdimensional intruders Fortunately Caliginous just call him Cal the Traveller seem to be here to help After eons of Travelers observing from the fences Cal who is not your garden variety of Traveler to begin with has decided to take a active role in the fight against the forces of evil Throughout the very action packed story we learn a myriad of background information on both Travelers and Lightbringers as well as the Light Shadow verse without for even a second halting the pace JC Andrijeski has an uncanny ability to create whole new worlds alien and familiar at the same time which she then populates with captivating interesting and relatable characters Yes Lightbringers and Travelers can be fully relatable when Andrijeski writes them in her fluid fast paced vivid and always delightful writing style As always she excels in getting across the action elements without disregarding the subtle romantic aspects of the story all them beautifully wrapped in a layers of suspense carefully seasoned with unexpected twist incredible turns and the kind of resolution that lets you both fully satisfied and asking for a good thing this is the beginning of a whole new series with much to come A word of caution though Andrijeski s writing style is highly addictive which leads to non stop reading sessions and subsequent sleep deprivation but the rewards are so much sweeter J. Suspense lightbringer mm2 I know Andrijeski s strength lies in series themselves taking her time to slowly unfold intricate plots and worlds Her weakness is first books They tend to be a bit confusing and fast paced too much so For instance the relationship between Cal and Alexis is an absolute rollercoaster without any fundamental basis He tags along like he s her most trusted friend while we literally know basically only his name He is kind of weird and secretive but I like weird and secretive characters so that s right up my alley Alexis is an absolute badass High potential there The writing style was also so reminiscent of Black books and Allie s War that it kind of annoyed me for example shaking heads once but also on a substantive level going to Thailand of all places Thailand was Black and Miri s go to And also the living light seers mind reading I wonder if it is because of dimension overlap Guess we ll find out. Lightbringer mm2 On the upside there s Andrijeski s writing in general which I love She can make any topic interesting to read about really The plot is engaging enough but with the complaints mentioned above I considered not reading the sequel UNTIL THAT PLOT TWIST Now I have to Thanks Knowing Andrijeski books will get better PERIOD J. SetupI was very disappointed with this book I wanted to like it and I did like Alexis I hated the Traveler I do not see any chemistry between the characters I thought there was between Alexis and any of the other characters. Lightbringer rival sons There is way too much talking and discussing for me The few fights in the book I thought were done quite well but there was too much discussion that instead of giving answers just left questions. Book lightbringer There is a lot of potential in this book but it is too slow paced and has too much dialogue a lot of which comes across as creepy especially Traveler I am not sure if I want to give the second book a try J. Science Fiction lightbringer set C Andrijeski JC Andrijeski is a truly beloved author as everything she puts out is wonderful fun That s certainly the case with Lightbringer Light Shadow Book 1 a wonderful mashup of enemies to lovers romance urban fantasy paranormal and inter dimensional sci fi The star here Alexis Lexi is one of the eponymous lightbringers guardians of the inter dimensional portals She s a protector of Earth but as we soon find out something very unpredictably bad is going on Well bad for the story characters but gloriously fun for readers This is an exciting thriller of a novel with action adventure and the start of what I anticipate will be a great romance Add together a superbly written plot perfectly crafted characters especially the Traveller Cal Caliginous who is wonderfully complex and great building of a multi dimensional universe with demons witches renegade gods and assorted other beasties A wildly fun ride which is easy for me to highly recommend I m looking forward to the next book J. Lightbringer emblem dbd C Andrijeski Alexis might have lived a bit isolated life but it wasn t so bad She was special She has great friends Until she became the last one of her race The last Lightbringer And the news about the peculiar dark events happening were brought to her by one strange and very hot man A Traveler Someone she never expected to encounter And now she has only him to face the threat by her side A very engaging and entertaining read with world building that draws the reader in from the very first page and characters that play with your emotions I very much enjoyed Cal in particular the way he was portrayed was sometimes sending chills down my spine He was so detached cold calculated and yet there was so much to him The way he acted out of this world with cold logic was starkly in contrast with the way Alexis acted with her emotions and humanity Yet the scenes when they came together were so charged full of energy I enjoyed this book and lot and would love to continue the journey J.
